Apologies for not getting to this earlier but the monthly free download from ChristianAudio.com is Kingdom Woman by Tony Evans and Chrystal Evans Hurst. The book is summarized thusly:
In Kingdom Woman, Tony Evans and his daughter, Chrystal Evans Hurst, remind women of their calling from God to be free, delivered, healed, and hopeful. The authors bring insight that encourages women to correct distorted perceptions and understand who they really are in Christ. A kingdom woman is called and empowered to live a life of victory through Christ!
In November of last year, I started thinking about things I would like to accomplish or do differently in 2017. I started to think about the way I was spending money particularly when it came to entertainment related purchases. That is when I decided to cut my cable down to the bare minimum and slash my SiriusXM package down to just the music channels. Those two things alone saved me about $110 a month.
Mind you, I didn’t do it because I was in financial distress or anything. I just felt like I could get more out of the money that I was spending if I did things a little different. So I sat down with a spreadsheet and ran some numbers and came up with a plan for 2017.
We reside comfortably in the information age. And quite frankly, more often than not, the too much information age. It is true that even for topics that we are really interested in following there can be too much to keep up with and it can be hard to prioritize what is most important to you and what you can let pass by unnoticed.
As a rule, I don’t make new year’s resolutions. It has been my experience that those never work out. Likely because people tend to aim higher then they intend to reach. Besides, you need not make big changes to your life on January 1, if you’re really sincere about losing weight or finding a new job that can as easily be started in July as it is in January.
Also, there are some goals that aren’t worth obtaining. Last year, I tried to write every day. It was my goal to put up a new post each day. I did for awhile, then I didn’t at all. I realized that posting every day was fine if I had something to say but if I didn’t it became a chor and I stopped enjoying my blog altogether.
I was offered a job the other day. Before I go into that more I need to explain something. I have generally found that work and the possibility of work aren’t the best things to blog about since employers and potential employers can google your name pretty easily and the things you say on your blog could come back to haunt you. That’s a risk even if you don’t talk about work. Looking at your blog can give them alook into your political and religious beliefs despite the fact that they’re not allowed to ask about those things in an interview. The Internet and social media have changed the game forever in that respect. So there’s always some risk.
But I want some advice and so I have to risk discussing this job opportunity. I will not name the potential employer nor will I discuss the task that I would be hired to do. Not mentioning the specific task presents a difficult situation for me, however. I am not mentioning it so that it doesn’t bias in one way or another the advice that I might receive. I also don’t want to make it seem like I am denigrating anyone who would happen to be doing this for a living. I don’t consider myself to be above the work at all but there are reasons that might make it a bad fit for me because of my own life experiences, misgivings and phobias. However, not identifying the task makes it harder for me to explain the issues that I have with it. So I am actually making it harder for someone to give me advice because I’m keeping some vital information vague. Still, I’m having a hard time with this one and so I have to at least try.
Hello, all. I hope this post finds you all doing well. Obviously, it has been awhile since I have written anything and probably longer since I wrote anything worth reading. I hope to start reversing that trend soon but make no guarantees. I did think it would be a good time to catch everyone up on what has been happening or what will be happening in my life.
I love Star Wars and I love reading. I’ve even reviewed a Star Wars audiobook or two…or five…or ten…or more.
Today, the folks at StarWars.com have announced details of the fifth annual event which will take place the entire month of October. Check the link for details on all sorts of events and participants around the world.
As someone who periodically writes audiobook reviews, I often have to consider the question:
What makes for a good audiobook?
It is a question that is more complicated than it might sound. The audiobook comes in many different forms. Some are read by a single narrator and some are read by more than one or a full cast. Some feature a lot of acting on the part of the narrator and some are quite dry. Some contain music and background sound effects and some feature no background noise whatsoever. Individual preference is a huge factor in how a person goes about picking their next listen.
Suppose for a moment that a new grocery store opens in your neighborhood. One day you decide to go and check it out. You walk in and are immediately impressed because the store seems to be stocked with anything you could possibly want.
As you walk around looking at all the itmes, you notice something strange. None of the items have a pricetag and not only that there are no checkout stations.
Perplexed, you walk over to the owner of the store and ask him to explain. He tells you that his store works differently from any other. You walk in, tell him what you need, how much you need and how often you need it. He proceeds to retrieve every item on your list, bag it up, take it to your car and then follow you home in his vehicle so that he can unpack all the groceries and put them away according to your direction.
So you ask how much this is going to cost you. He explains that all you need to do is tell him thank you or how much you appreciated what he did when he is done. Since you don’t need to give him any money there is no need for a pricetag on any item and there is no need for the checkout lines either. What would you think of a store that opporated in that manner?
I believe that there are two things that I could say about such a store that are likely to be true. The first is that such a store would be incredibly popular. The second thing is that such a store would not last long.
I’ve been quiet again. I haven’t had much of anything to say and I don’t know if that has really changed all that much. But I decided I would write something anyway because it just feels like a good idea. There won’t be a theme but more a collection of random notes and thoughts.
I haven’t really written much as of late. Yes, I have put up some posts related to Audiobook news but I don’t really count that as writing. I don’t count that because those posts are easy and don’t require much in the way of creativity. They are based on facts, what is on sale, when is it on sale, how long is it on sale, where is it on sale and so on. I can hammer out posts like those without much effort or enthusiasm. I don’t mean that to sound like I don’t want to write those posts only to say it doesn’t take a lot of motivation to get me to write one of those posts.
The last post I wrote that I put a lot of thought into and revealed something about myself was back on May the third. That’s a far cry from my stated goal from earlier this year to write something on this blog every day.
On Sunday, I put up a post giving you the chance to ask me questions which I would answer in a future post. The response has been underwhelming. I put that same thing on Facebook and was asked a few questions and have done my best to answer them all.
My friend Amanda (check out her blog) asked me a few questions. They were mostly general information questions because she and I don’t know each other all that well in some ways.
The first question was about the music I liked to listen to and the second was about my favorite food. This led to us discussing cooking and how we both enjoy it but it isn’t so fun to cook for one all the time. I mentioned in the middle of that conversation that I think cooking a meal together is a good activity to do on a date. As I was getting ready for bed I decided that talking about this would make for a good post and decided that I wouldn’t wait until the morning to write it.
I haven’t written anything in awhile. In part, I haven’t really had anything specifically on my mind to write about. I still don’t really but thought I would try this. I’ve tried this before and gotten zero response but things change over time and I always pick up new readers. So you can help determine the direction or content of a future post.
