Podcast Plus: Under the Learning Tree

Here is This week’s episode of Talking Audiobooks for your listening pleasure. This episode is called ‘Under the Learning Tree’ and this post will talk about why.

I have talked at length about the two audiobook groups I am in on Facebook. Those of course are Audiobook Addicts and Audiobook Lovers. It is the second group that helped to contribute a lot to this episode.

Lately, that group has featured a lot of questions asked by authors to narrators, narrators to authors and authors/narrators to listener. Things like audition sample pet peeves, what can narrators do to make a book a better listen, what words do authors use too much and more have all been asked in recent days.
Personally, I have learned a great deal from those questions and the answers given. That is why I called this episode ‘Under the Learning Tree’. Some people don’t want to know how the sausage is made, they just want to enjoy the sausage and that’s fine. But if you do want to know how the sausage is made or want to offer suggestions on how to improve the sausage then you’ll probably want to get in on or at least observe these types of questions.

As an aside, I have been familiar with the expression ‘sitting under the learning tree’ for years but it is also a nod to something else for me. When I was a kid, I really enjoyed a television show called ‘Under the Umbrella Tree’ hich I saw on the Disney Channel. I think it is actually a Canadian television show. Regardless, I couldn’t help but think of that show as I was coming up with a title.

The calendar has hit November. This means you have less than 2 weeks to enter our 2017 ‘Thankful for Audiobooks’ giveaway. One lucky winner will receive 10 audiobooks of their choice for first prize. A second prize of 5 books and a third prize of 3 books will also be awarded!

All you have to do to enter is send us an email telling us why you are thankful for Audiobooks. Your answers could be funny or serious, they could express appreciation for the audiobooks of a certain author or narrator, you could even say you are thankful for audiobooks because without them you couldn’t read posts like this one from me. Sucking up is encouraged even though it won’t increase your chances of winning.

All entries must be received by 12:00 PM PT on 11/14/2017 and will be read on our 11/17 episode of Talking Audiobooks where we will celebrate Thanksgiving by reading the entries and announcing the winners.
