Hello everyone. I’m taking a bracket break to update my blog for the first time in way too long. My reasons for not having written sooner are many but can best be summed up as laziness. At least I’m honest, right?
Let us see if I can’t catch you all up on the “happenings” in my life. This shouldn’t take too long but probably will take longer than it should.
The biggest thing is that I’m currently under the weather and have been for awhile. I’ve had a pretty bad cough and my nose has been pretty stuffed at times. Honestly though, it really isn’t too bad most of the times but the most frustrating part is that when it seems like I’m getting better I have a day where I feel a bit worse. I really should just try to stay in bed for a full day but there’s a lot that I want to do that requires me to not be in bed.
We had a family gathering with my mom’s side of the family over President’s Day weekend. It was good to see all the cousins and such but my enthusiasm is dampened slightly by the fact that I think this is where I got sick. I certainly started feeling it the day after the gathering.
Speaking of mom’s side of the family. Her aunt, so my grand aunt, great aunt, who knows but I’ve always just called her aunt Dorothy is in the hospital. She’s in her mid-90s and doesn’t seem to be doing too well at the moment. We went and visited yesterday and all things considered she was haning tough. She was even able to speak or a bit but it was very low. Dorothy is the last one of my relatives from that generation. So next up would be the generation that includes my mom, her siblings and cousins. That’s what happens in life, I guess.
I’m still reading at a pretty good clip. The book I’m reading now will be my 47th book completed this year out of my original goal of 100. This one is the longest one I’ve read this year clocking in at just over 32 hours in audiobook form. It is on the subject of Brexit and is all about British politics. I think I like their political system better than the United States in some ways. I’m hoping to finish the book on Saturday or Sunday.
As I write this, I have just finished watching ‘Moana’. It was really enjoyable and The Rock was really funny in it. I have also watched ‘Sing’ my times than I would care to admit since it was released digitally on March 3. I’ve also been watching ‘The Golden Girls’ on Hulu and ‘Futurama’ on Netflix.
I have been trying to have meetings to discuss new employment opportunities but they keep getting postponed because nobody wants to come down with whatever I have. I’m excited for what could come next but I can’t get too excited because I don’t know when we’re going to get a really good start. By the way, I’ve been in contact with many people over the last week or so and none of them have reported catching my cold or anything, so that’s good. The first week I wasn’t really around anybody and that was depressing because I was bored and lonely.
I spent some time last night texting and messaging some friends that I haven’t talked to in awhile. I am terrible about keeping in touch with people and I alays have been. I think social media has made things worse because I think that if they want to know what is up with me they can read my status updates but that is often not enough. Okay, it is almost never enough. But reaching out has been good.
My aunt Dorothy’s time in the hospital and the fact that the anniversary of my dad’s death is fast approaching has my thoughts drifting to less than pleasant topics. Sometimes it is necessary for us to think of those unpleasant things for mental preparation and sometimes even physical preparation. I will have more to say about this closer to the 13th of April.
NFL free agency is one of my favorite times of year but the Raiders haven’t been very active until this week. I’m okay with some of their moves and will miss some of the players that have signed elsewhere. That’s the thing about being able to follow players on social media, you can connect with them in a way you couldn’t be for. You can find out their likes and dislikes and you may even find out you have a lot in common with some of them. It makes the fan experience a lot different from 20 years ago and beyond, I think.
Baseball season is fast approaching and I am ready with my subscription to MLB.TV. This was something I was able to fit in my budget thanks to cutting my cable late last year and shifting some things I paid for monthly to yearly. That process is on-going and so far I am really happy with the results.
My WWE action figure collection is still growing, though at a slower rate. I added Mr. McMahon, Alicia Fox, Emma, Kane and The Wild Samoans recently. I also got some Wal-Mart exclusive figures that are in the style of the old Hasbro WWF figures I had as a kid. I really enjoy them.
When I went to the family gathering I did something I hadn’t done since 2011 but have been meaning to do for a long time. I attended church. I went with my mom to the Methodist church where we had the lunch after my dad’s funeral. It is close to where he is laid to rest and a sister to the church where we had his funeral, they share the same pastor. It was good to do that again, and I need to get in the habit of going instead of the habit of not going.
I think that’s about all I have to say for right now. I hope all my blogging friends are doing well or at least that they’re feeling better than me. Seriously, this isn’t fun but it could be worse, honestly right now it is just annoying me more than anything. My nose is only a little plugged and my cough is only bad some of the time and it is better than when I was dizzy and light-headed at the start so I will choose to celebrate progress.
