September 2015 Audiobook Thread: Stats, Purchases and Reads

Updated: 09/29/2015

Welcome to my Audiobook reads and purchases post for September of 2015. This post is where you can keep track of all of my audiobook reads and all of my audiobook purchases in the month of September. Pretty simple, right?
I did the same thing in August so if you’re new you can go to that link and see how things shook out last month.

This post contains three tables. The first shows my reading statistics in August. The second is where you’ll see the audiobooks I have purchased in September. The final table will show what I have read this month.
When a book is linked, that means it is one that I have reviewed.

August/2015 READING STATISTICS

As always, these statistics come straight from the spreadsheet that I use to keep track of my entire library of audiobooks and the record of my reading over the last almost 3 years. These statistics are not the only ones I track but I feel they best represent my reading progress each month.

Reading Statistics for August 2015
Books Read Minutes Read Average Days to finish a book Average Book Rating
9 5073 0.9 8.53

As you can see, things improved dramatically from July to August. I read more than twice as many books and I shrank the time it took to read each book by over an entire day. Even the book rating was up over July which was my best month of the year up to that point 8.53 to 8.50. ‘The Martian’ is a large reason why the rating was up scoring the rare 10/10 rating. That offset a 6.5 rating that was also handed out as my lowest rated book of the month.
As good as August was in comparison to July it was still a below average month for the most part. It is my third lowest number of books read in a month this year behind July and February and is under my average of 13.4 books read per month thus far in 2015.
However, I do have reason to think that September will be better in some categories at least if not across the board. A lot of that can be attributed to Star Wars which I will discuss below.

As you can see in the table below, I am adding a lot of Star Wars audiobooks to my collection in September. All I can say about the release of 8 new titles in a single month is thank God for being able to pre-order books and to purchase extra credits when needed. I’ve been preparing for this financially since the announcement of the Journey to The Force Awakens was made.

SEPTEMBER/2015 READS

Click here to view my reading progress in August 2015.

I mentioned elsewhere that Star Wars will probably guarantee I read more in September than I did in August. If I were to only read the Star Wars novels coming out in September and nothing else, I would be one book short of the 9 books I read in August. Of course since all but two of those Star Wars novels are shorter than my average listen if that was all I heard in September, I would fall short of the number of minutes that I heard in August.

I’ll get a Star Wars assisted boost this month for sure. How big of a boost will that be? I can’t say for sure. The 8 books come out in clusters with one on September 4 and the other on September 22. There is a lot of time in between the 4th and 22nd and 3 of those books released on the 4th will take less than 4 hours to complete. You can bet that I’ll be looking for other things to read, especially to break free into something different.
Will I read as many as the 23 books I read in April? Honestly, it is not likely. That was a special case as my goal then was to write a book review a day for 30 days and i’m happy to say I achieved that goal. The other reason it is unlikely to happen can be summed up in one word … football.

Let me know what you’re reading this month, audiobook or otherwise. Come across any bargains or book contests, share them in the comments. Basically, feel free to use this thread to talk all things books in September.
