I head over to Either.io to get my random question for the week. While Either.io displays how their audience answer the question right there, I am not going to share that with my audience because knowing how everyone else voted might influence your own decision making process. In some instances, it might influence my decision making process but not today.
This is one of those questions that will be hard for some people, I wonder what my cousin Shiloh would give as an answer but is an easy decision for me to make.
You may prefer one genre over the other in general but maybe your favorite show is from that other drama. It would be like if you said my favorite genre is drama but my favorite show ever is The Simpsons. It is for those people I expect that this will be a tough question to answer.
Complicating matters further is if this applies to just television or if it also includes movies. If it included movies as well, I would want to know where Star Wars falls on the scale. How things that are in reality outside of either genre like Science Fiction would be handled is another issue. What do you do with M*A*S*H?
However, even if I lost everything that was questionable because the person forcing me to make this choice is a real prick, my answer does not change and is still a slam dunk.
There are several reasons this one is easy for me. The first is that because of my visual impairment, I understand comedies a lot better. I don’t watch a lot of dramas now because I miss out on so much of the action. When I stay with my above mentioned cousin Shiloh I watch some of the dramas she likes because she fills in the gaps when everything on screen becomes visual.
A few years ago I tried to add more drama to my TV watching schedule but it never took. I attributed it to the fact I didn’t have anyone like Shiloh watching it with me and filling in the gap. If I had access to Descriptive Audio for these shows on a site like Hulu, that might be different.
The second reason I picked comedy is because most of my favorite shows ever fall into that category. Obviously, given the first reason this should go without saying but I’m saying it anyway. Aside from live action shows like ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’, ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, ‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘Friends’ and so on I would also get animated shows like ‘The Simpsons’, ‘The Flintstones’ and more.
The third reason might be the biggest in my case. I consider my life to be filled with enough drama that when it comes to entertainment my preference would be to laugh. I have had an incredibly stressful last few months and that stress took a toll on my physical health. I didn’t do much laughing then and that is something that you notice.
If Sports were factored in as drama my decision becomes a little bit more difficult but my answer still remains the same. I could follow sports by listening to podcasts or reading articles online. Also, since this specifically says “watch” the radio is not off limits and I would get as much out of listening to games on the radio as I do watching them on TV.
If this question substituted the word “read” for “watch” then my answer would most assuredly flip.
It is your turn to answer the poll question below. If you’d like to leave a comment, feel free. If you end up blogging about this subject yourself, share a link and I will read it.
